Urban Privacy Options

Help your home feel more private with close neighbors.

Living Privacy Fence

If your local ordinances limit the height of your privacy fence to 6 feet, you might try growing a taller one!  A row of Crape Myrtles (beautiful with uplighting), columnar Maple Trees, or American Arborvitae Pines can elevate your privacy to 20 feet and beyond.

Reeded Privacy Glass

If you have a window overlooking the neighbors, swapping out the glass panes (or simply adding an adhesive application) can allow for privacy with natural daylight.  Reeded glass also introduces a clean, vertical line texture to the space, helping to emphasize the room’s height.  Other options include frosted glass or etched pattern glass, and all of these looks can be achieved with simple adhesive window applications from places like Amazon.

Bottom-Up Shades

Curtains and traditional top-down blinds offer all-or-nothing privacy.  But shades that deploy from the bottom and move up tend to provide better privacy while allowing for direct natural daylight in the upper portion of the window. (By the way, blindster.com has amazing holiday sales throughout the year.)
